CHANGE-A-LOCK_® a division of Topper Hardware, Inc., was founded in 1978 by Robert McCosh Paig, who at the time owned and operated a locksmith business in Huntington Beach, California. Robert, prior to becoming a locksmith, was a former employee of Philco Ford who had been assigned to NASA's photo-optical division. Robert conceived, developed, and patented CHANGE-A-LOCK_® in 1978 so the general public would have a "do-it-yourself" rekeying kit available, thereby avoiding the high cost of a locksmith.

Topper Hardware, Inc., guarantees this "Change-a-lock" to be free of defects from manufacture and workmanship. If  installed properly, and due to defect in manufacture and/or workmanship this "Change-a-lock" fails to operate properly, then the purchaser should return the defective "Change-a-lock" to the place of purchase, and upon proof of purchase, a full refund of the purchase price or a new Change-a-lock will be given.
